Is Load Integrity Keeping You Up at Night?

Man-Awake-In-Bed

Every day you stretch wrap skids. Your team is doing what they have been told to do, applying a specific gauge of wrap a specific number of times. Everyone assumes this is working, and then an irate customer calls complaining that a load shifted during transport, and they have damaged products.

When this happens, you have to stop to question load integrity and ask yourself, “What constitutes a good load?”

The simplistic answer is a good load arrives at the endpoint without damage. The better answer is a good load arrives at the endpoint without damage and stretched wrapped with the optimal amount of film. Optimal is the amount that holds the load together correctly without resulting in unnecessary material waste caused by over-wrapping.

It’s also good to remember that stretch film is memory film. If film was made to stretch 200%, and you’re only stretching it 150%, there is a good chance you could experience load failure when the truck transporting your product rounds a curve at 60 miles an hour.

t-s-sAre your loads optimized for performance? Athens can help you determine that with help from our partner, Highlight, a leader in the stretch wrap equipment industry. At their facility, they have specialized equipment to test your load, simulating load transit behavior such as tilting. Or, we can test on-site using portable equipment.
