2016 Design Trends and How They Affect Paper Choice
With every New Year come new design trends. And with that come new ways to use paper. Here are a few trends we found on Shutterstock.com
Trend #1: Flat Lay
This is a different way to do a photo collage. Lay it down and line it up on a neutral background. Flat lay is practical, popular, and perfect for everything from food to fashion.
Paper: Need a paper that will show off the items in the photo, clean crisp edges and vivid colors. Coated stock is the obvious choice, or if you prefer to use uncoated, print with UV inks.
Trend #2: Boho
This means intricate patterns and a muted palette. This fashion favorite will dominate design this year. The PANTONE Color of the Year selection for 2016 is a harmonious pairing of inviting shades that embody a mindset of tranquility and inner peace. Perfect fit.
Paper: Uncoated, and instead of a bright white, try a natural white.
Trend #3: Sacred Geometry
These beautiful designs emerge at the point where mathematics, nature, and spirituality meet. Sacred geometry is most often seen in sacred architecture and sacred art.
Paper: This needs a paper that will show off fine lines and sharp edges, as well as deep, even solids.
Trend #4: Metallics
Metallics is one of the most versatile trends. They can be industrial or glamorous, retro or futuristic.
Paper: A metallic look can be achieved with paper or inks.
Other Trends to Consider
The popularity of texture is on the rise, as well as incorporating watercolor effects (in both print and web). And remember this, especially with textured paper. Felt and wire means no work and turns.
